The term “reaching for the brass ring” dates back to the early 20th century, when carousels were a staple attraction at carnivals and fairs. To maximize carousel occupancy, operators invented a game to encourage riders to sit on the less-desirable, stationary horses on the outer edge of the carousel. Operators would suspend brass rings just outside of the boundaries of the carousel floor; with the promise of a free ride for anyone bold enough to lean precariously away from the horse and successfully grab the ring.
Though carousels have now been relegated to the back corners of amusement parks and shopping malls, “reaching for the brass ring” still has a very modern application by symbolizing the pursuit of a desirable object or outcome. Most importantly, it’s not the dreams or opportunities symbolized by the brass ring that have the most value— it’s the determination and courage necessary to chase those goals.
When you need a hand to give you a leg up, we’re here to bolster your success.
Together, we can reach the brass ring!
